Number Seven

A piece of Lacewood in the shop was catching my eye each day, and I finally decided that I needed to make it into a clock.  So I went in search of a movement that I could use.  After several weeks I found a small mantle clock that was supposedly in working order and though the asking price was substantially more than I was comfortable to pay, I made an offer at my comfort level.  I was very surprised that my offer was accepted immediately.

I soon discovered that the clock was not really in running order.  It would only run for about 20 minutes before it stopped.  So I overhauled the works and got it so that it ran well.  It has a very good quality movement of a smaller size, a timekeeper without chime.  After many days of design and re-design I settled on a motif that gave expression to the feelings I had of the movement - that of impishness and fun.

As with Number One and Number Five, I hand hammered the dial - this time in brass.  I used a salvaged brass bezel and domed glass to provide a foil to the pattern of the Lacewood.
