Number Twenty Two
The movement for this clock was made in 1954 by the Herschede Clock Company in Cincinnati. Herschede was known for making high quality "grandfather" clocks, and the quality was carried forward to their mantle clocks.
Inspiration for the case design came from an auction listing offering an Oak clock with some of the features that I incorporated into this design. However, I decided to render the clock in Black Walnut and to use imitation gold leaf on the pillars. I also scaled down the dimensions to a more modest size.
To me the end result looks like it belongs in an Edwardian gentleman's library, one with dark wallpaper, dark bookcases and smelling of cigars.
